Finnish report on learning environments

The goal for this research was to map Finnish general education teachers´ skills and development needs in using information and communication technology within education. The main focus was on distance education. A survey was sent in November 2011 by email to all primary and secondary school principals. They were asked to forward the survey to their school’s teachers. All together 2493 teachers from all over Finland replied.

Library in Brisbane School of Distance Education

The Brisbane School of Distance Education (BSDE) is located in the quiet suburb of Coorparoo, not far from the legendary Gabba cricket ground.  When Barry Phillips of Sero recently visited, he was welcomed to the BSDE by the Executive Principal and introduced to two visitors on a fact finding mission from the Department of Education of the Chinese province of Jiangsu. BSDE is an Education Queensland (the educational arm of the Queensland Government) distance education school which supports students from prep to Year 12 and which also includes adults in its Year 10-12 cohort.

Seminar for distance upper secondary schools in Finland

The National Board of Education arranged a seminar for distance upper secondary schools in September. The target group included principles, distance learning teachers and developers, and other distance learning experts. Nearly 70 people were present.

Getting to grips with Distance Education Pedagogy

Terry Anderson and Jon Dron from Athabasca University in Canada have published an interesting paper which traces the pedagogy behind distance education over several generations, namely cognitive-behaviourism, social constructivism, and connectivism.
